It opens up a world of possibilities when it comes to your fitness and allows you to live a balanced and healthy lifestyle all from the comfort of your own home. Whether you're interested in having a bit more privacy when working out or want the convenience of being able to run long distances without leaving your house, treadmills are a fantastic addition for anyone looking to improve their lives.

But once you decide to make the investment of purchasing a treadmill, it's important to look after it to ensure it continues functioning as it should. New to the world of treadmills? Fear not - we've put together a handy list of tips for maintaining treadmills. Stick around for everything you need to know.

Treadmill Maintenance Guide

Just like with any piece of equipment you own, regular maintenance will keep your treadmill in great condition. But aside from cleaning it after use, what else is involved in looking after your cardio device?

  • Lubricate the belt 1-4 times a year: It's generally recommended to lubricate your treadmill belt up to 4 times a year. This can even increase if you use your treadmill often. While you should have instructions specific to your machine, it's important to lubricate the area where your feet make contact with the treadmill.
  • Vacuum often: Since treadmills are walked on with shoes, this can welcome outside dirt and debris into the machine which can cause problems over time. That's why it's important to vacuum inside your treadmill once a week.
  • Investigate your treadmill: It's generally recommended to briefly investigate your treadmill at least once a week for signs of wear and tear. This includes looking into whether or not the belt is straight and not rubbing on the side of the machine. If your treadmill has suddenly started to slow down, you could be dealing with a crooked belt. If you're wondering what to do when your treadmill belt slips, it's best to lubricate your machine and get it straightened again.
  • Use a mat: Since you'll be applying a substantial amount of weight on your floor, it's recommended to place a protective mat underneath your treadmill to protect your floor. Otherwise, you could risk cracks and damage.
